Athens Federal Community Bank values our customer relationships and your privacy in regard to information you have entrusted to us. The law gives you certain privacy rights. Athens Federal gives you more.

 

  • We do no sell or share Customer Information with outside marketers who may want to offer you their own products or services.
  • We do not allow those who are doing business on our behalf to use customer information for their own marketing purposes and contractually require them to protect customer information.
  • We do not disclose information to anyone outside of the Athens Federal Community Bank family of companies except as required to service your accounts or as permitted by law.

 

We realize you have a choice in selecting financial service providers and believe our soundness, quality and integrity in maintaining the highest level of security, privacy and confidentiality possible is not only expected, but the right thing to do.

 

For that reason, we inform customers who obtain products or services primarily for personal, family or household purposes of our policies for collecting, using, securing and sharing information. This disclosure will be made the first time we do business with you and every year you remain an Athens Federal Community Bank customer. Information we collect is treated with the same care and respect while your account is open and after it is closed.

1. 1. PROTECTING YOUR INFORMATION FROM MARKETERS OUTSIDE THE ATHENS FEDERAL COMMUNITY BANK FAMILY OF COMPANIES

Unlike many other financial institutions, Athens Federal Community Bank does not sell or share any Customer Information with marketers outside the Athens Federal Community Bank Family who may want to offer you their own products and services. You do not need to take any action for this benefit.

 

2. MAKING SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION A PRIORITY

One of our most important responsibilities and priorities is keeping your financial information secure. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with Federal and industry standards to protect Customer Information. Access by employees is authorized for business purposes only. Our employees are restricted by policy that requires confidential treatment of Customer Information and are subject to disciplinary action if they fail to follow this policy. We monitor our policies, practices, computer networks, procedural safeguards and test our systems to ensure your privacy is protected. In the event sensitive customer information is inadvertently disclosed, we will notify you and provide a recommended plan to protect your privacy.

 

3. COLLECTING INFORMATION

We collect and use various types of information to service your accounts, save you time and money, better respond to your needs and manage our business and risks.

 

Customer Information is categorized in the following ways:

 

  • Application Information - Information we receive from you on applications or other forms you provide, such as your assets, income or other debt.
  • Transaction and Experience Information - Information about your transactions and account experience with us, our affiliates and others, such as your account balance, payment history, parties to transactions, your inquiries and our responses.
  • Consumer Report Information - Information from a consumer reporting agency, such as your credit history.
  • Information from Outside Sources - Information we receive from other sources relating to employment, credit or other relationships, such as employment verifications, loan and deposit balances, insurance coverage and other verifications.
  • Other General Information - Information from outside sources such as data from public records that is not used to determine your eligibility for a product or service.

As required by the USA Patriot Act, we collect information and take actions necessary to verify your identification.

Managing Information within Athens Federal Community Bank Family of Companies

Athens Federal Community Bank Family of Companies includes a financial services provider such as our brokerage division, a title insurance and appraisal company, a mortgage brokerage company, a consumer finance company, and a real estate title company. Athens Federal Community Bank may share all categories of customer information among our companies. We share this information in order to save you time when opening an account with one of our other companies, to enhance our ability to detect and prevent unauthorized or fraudulent activity against an account, and to provide additional products or services that may benefit you.

 

Managing information with companies that work for us

We may share all categories of information outlined in this notice with companies who work for us. All companies who work for us are contractually obligated to protect the information we provide and are restricted from using this information for any other purpose. These companies may include financial service providers who perform check printing, transaction processing, and account statement mailing.

 

Additionally, we may share all categories of information with companies that work for us to provide marketing support or other services.

 

Disclosing information in other situations

We may disclose all categories of Customer Information outlined in this notice to credit bureaus and similar organizations, and when required or permitted by law. For example, Customer Information may be disclosed in connection with a subpoena or similar legal process, fraud prevention or investigation, risk management and security and recording of deeds of trust in public records. Customer Information may also be disclosed to companies that process your request for products or services or in connection with the sale of your account to another financial institution. We may also share all categories of information outside our family of companies when we have your consent.

 

5. MAKING SURE INFORMATION IS ACCURATE

Accurate and up to date information is important in order for us to properly service your account. You have access to information we maintain through various sources, such as account statements, online banking, telephone banking and other communications with you. If you feel any of our information is not accurate, please write us at the address listed on your statement or telephone us. We will promptly update or correct the information. Please contact us if you have questions or feel we have not handled information about you properly.

 

6. HONORING YOUR PREFERENCES

You have a choice when it comes to how and when the Athens Federal Community Bank Family of Companies shares and uses Customer Information.

You may request that Application Information, Consumer Report Information and Information from outside sources not be shared among Athens Federal Community Bank Companies.

 

7. ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE

Remember that Athens Federal Community Bank and its Family of Companies does not sell or share any Customer Information with marketers outside the Athens Federal Community Bank Family of Companies who may want to offer you their own products. No action is required for this benefit.

If you prefer we not share Customer Information within our family of companies that is not information specifically relating to our transactions and experiences with you, you may inform us in person, in writing or by calling 1-800-526-3572 during normal business hours. Making this choice may require you to provide the same information multiple times, speak with multiple customer service representatives regarding your accounts within our family of companies and limit our ability to detect unauthorized or fraudulent activity on your accounts.

When calling we will ask you to provide identifying information, your social security number and your Athens Federal Community Bank account numbers. Request made by mail should contain your name, social security number, Athens Federal Community Bank account numbers, your phone number, your written request to "Opt - Out of affiliate information sharing", the date and your signature. Your request will be honored within 45 days of receipt of the notice. Notwithstanding this instruction, we may still make other disclosures as required and otherwise allowed by law.

 

Your decision to Opt - Out will apply to all owners of an account such as joint account holders, co-borrowers, guarantors, etc.; however, it will not apply to other accounts those joint owners may have with us. If you have previously informed us of your decision to Opt - Out, we will continue to honor that decision and you do not have to make the request again.

 

Guarding your own information

Athens Federal Community Bank recommends that you take the following precautions to guard against the disclosure and unauthorized use of your account and personal information:

  • Never provide personal information including full Social Security numbers or account and credit card information over the phone or internet unless you have initiated the call and know with whom you are speaking
  • Safeguard ATM, credit and debit cards
  • Memorize personal identification numbers (PINs) and refrain from writing PINs, passwords, Social Security numbers or credit card numbers where they can be easily found
  • Immediately change pre-assigned PINs and passwords to ones that are personally selected and memorized
  • Do not use easily identifiable numbers such as birth dates, address, phone numbers or Social Security numbers when choosing PINs or passwords
  • Be alert to spoof e-mails (a.k.a. phishing or hoax e-mails) that appear to be from reputable companies requesting you select a link to another web site.
  • Athens Federal will never ask you to provide sensitive account information via an email request that is unsolicited by you.
  • Store cancelled checks, unused checks and account statements in a safe place
  • Tear up or shred unused pre-approved credit offers
  • Report lost or stolen checks, credit and debit cards immediately
  • Advise us if you feel you have been a victim of identity theft or if you feel someone has unauthorized access to your personal information
